Flavia Solva – 3D visualisation of a Roman town

Categories

  • 3D reconstruction

3D visualisation of Flavia Solva, a Late Antiquity Roman town situated in Roman province of Noricum. It was built on the western banks of the Mur river. Nowadays is close to the modern cities of Wagna and Leibnitz (Styria, Austria).

For this project not only the Roman settlement was reconstructed, but also an impressive graveyard with a tumuli area as well as a fluvial port.
Additionally, the ancient landscape was reconstructed too, including the limitatio or centuriatio, also known as Roman grid, which was a method of land measurement used by the Romans.

We developed this project of virtual archaeology in collaboration with 7reasons Medien GmbH for the Austrian Academy of Science.
